Independent Novel

For my independent novel, I chose to read the British author, Terry Pratchett's Witches Abroad. It tells the very fictional story of three witches who are on an adventure to put an end to Lilth's evil mirror magic. Their crazy journey takes them through magical and familiar elements such as a house dropping on a witch who is wearing red boots while walking down a yellow brick road. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very funny and refreshingly original and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Antigone

In the highly praised novel, Antigone, its main, rebellious character Antigone is the tragic hero who has the seemingly impossible task of burying her brother despite the king's decree. Her actions have been criticized as selfish and I focused my paper on defending her actions as they truly were, loyal. While working on this paper, I came to the realization that a character's actions can be highly misled.

Brave New World

After finishing Brave New World, I was interested in the way the seemingly perfect world had many flawed characteristic. It became clear that Huxley actually created the world to represent a dystopia and with that knowledge, I shaped my thesis for this essay. By analyzing this subject I was able to understand that all the aspects of Huxley's "utopia" actually added to his bold statement that everything in this twisted world represents all the elements he deems imperfect in society.

Lord of the Flies

Whether its the boys representing the world as a whole or the conch shell standing as authority on the island, the constant use of symbolism in Lord of the Flies is not hard to depict. I was particularly interested in the use of color as a symbol, for it is something so simple yet it adds meaning to the text. I centered my paper around the symbolism of pink in the story and I learned that as the story progressed the lack of pink portrays the loss of innocence on the island.

Research Paper

I chose to make Shakespeare the focus of my research paper. Yet, instead of focusing on his famous works or the meaning behind his unforgettable plays, I centered my research on his influence. How he was motivated during his time and how his works are still influencing the world today became the focal point that helped formed my thesis. It was interesting learning about the influential factors that shaped his unmatched success.
